The coldest, driest, windiest, most remote place on Earth \u2013 it\u2019s the closest you\u2019ll feel to being on another planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The area White Desert operates within was discovered by a Norwegian expedition in 1930, claimed by Norway in 1939, and declared a dependency of that nation in 1949. Named in honour of the then Norwegian queen, the region is perfectly situated for exploring the interior of the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It takes us 5-hours by private charter flying from Cape Town and landing on the private blue ice runway, Wolf\u2019s Fang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video autoplay controls loop muted poster=\"https:\/\/www.lifestylehotels.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/\u00a9WhiteDesertAntarctica00026-scaled.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lifestylehotels.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/white_desert_brand_video-compressed.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/white-desert.com\/our-camps\/whichaway\/\">Whichaway<\/a>, the flagship camp is located 170 kilometres (105 mi) from the coast and sits at 100 meters (330 ft) above sea level. <a href=\"https:\/\/white-desert.com\/echo\/\">Echo Base<\/a>&nbsp;is situated further inland around 100 kilometres (62 mi) from the coast and at 1130 meters (3700 ft) above sea level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several countries operate science research bases in the territory, such as Neumayer-Station III (Germany), Novolazarevskaya Station (Russia), SANAE IV (South Africa) and Maitri (India). Echo is as close as you can get to feeling like you\u2019re off the planet without leaving Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The space-age design of the \u2018Sky Pods\u2019 makes them look like they\u2019ve been beamed down from Mars.
